Hygienic Filter Trolley for a Solvent Application

Siga Filtration was tasked to supply a two stage filtration solution for a solvent application at a pharmaceutical company.

Solvents are widely used in manufacturing and cleaning processes for particle removal, polishing and regeneration.

The Problem

Solvent filtration is a challenging application as most solvents are hazardous substances, so designing a filtration solution for filtering solvents must take careful consideration. This includes:

Application Requirements: This includes the micron rating and degree of filtration required, hygienic or industrial application, single use or multi pass, batch or continuous.
Process Conditions: Flash point, vapour pressure and fluid state of solvents are carefully assessed before making a selection.
PED Compliance: We use solvent data to establish correct fluid groups and categories for PED compliance. All filter housings are fully compliant with Pressure Equipment Directive.
Material Compatibility: We check material compatibility of all wetted parts to ensure that offered materials will retain their physical properties during operation. Our standard material of construction for filter housings is Stainless Steel which is compatible with a wide range of solvents. Filter elements and bags are available in a range of polymers and Stainless Steel. In addition, we can also supply fluoropolymer lined vessels for aggressive media and 100% PTFE elements and bags.

The Solution

We supplied STERALine FBH and STERALine PBT Hygienic cartridge filter housings assembled in series on a mobile skid to work as a prefilter and fine filter. STERALine FBH housings can be used with filter bags or with a cleanable mesh lined baskets. STERALine PBT housings take Code 7 type polishing filters in a range of micron ratings. These two housings were customised to operate on a trolley for a mobile filtration solution. All sanitary filter housings are constructed with 316 Stainless Steel, come with hygienic connections and internal surface finish of Ra 0.8 or 0.4 micron.
