The Problem
Non pollen contaminants in raw honey can be introduced by bees or during transportation and processing. Commercial producers are faced with the challenge of removing undesirable contaminants without sacrificing the pollen content. This delicate balance makes filtration of honey particularly challenging. Many commercially available honeys are a blend of honeys and each processing stage increases the risk of contamination.
Solutions
Siga filtration offered STERALine FBH food grade basket filter housing with acuraBasket Stainless Steel cleanable mesh baskets. The filter housings were installed in duty/standby arrangement and over sized to avoid premature plugging. This additional capacity also allowed operators to switch flow before the basket was fully blocked in order to avoid pollen removal due to caking.
