Fragrances are made by extracting aromatic compounds from natural sources like essential oils, absolutes, resins, and tinctures from flowers, fruits, leaves, spices, woods, and animal sources. Synthetic compounds are also commonly used due to non-availability or high cost of natural materials. The extraction process can involve steam distillation, solvent extraction, cold pressing, enfleurage and many others.
Once the fragrance compounds have been extracted, these are blended in various concentrations with ethyl alcohol and water. The blended fragrance is often chilled to precipitate any solid impurities like waxes, resins or other impurities to avoid a hazy mixture during winter or during transportation. Impurities can also alter the fragrance profile. These impurities, which might be dissolved at higher temperatures, become solid or semi-solid at lower temperatures, making them easier to filter out. Filtration provides a clearer and more aesthetically pleasing final product.
Our filtration products can improve clarity and purity of the final blended perfume.
STERALINE PBT is a hygienic cartridge filter housing that is constructed from 316 Stainless Steel and features a polished internal finish. This housing comes as standard with hygienic connections and can be used with FINEPleat PP elements to remove chill haze.
Prior to chilling, a coarse micron rating can be used to remove solid particles, such as waxes, dust or plant residues that may be present in the perfume mixture. This ensures the final product is clear and free from any unwanted materials.
Siga Filtration can also mount the filtration system on a mobile trolley complete with ATEX rated diaphragm pump.
